Liverpool Front

Formed by a group of Irish workers looking for recreation on rest days between days of toil on the Queensway tunnel, the club were nonetheless open to all from day one.

Initially moving around Liverpool and Birkenhead to play matches, Liffey Mersey - named after the rivers of Dublin and Merseyside respectively - eventually found a home in Huyton which organically grew into a ground they remained at until 1996. By then, the new all-seater stadium built on Alamein Road was ready to be occupied and that’s where The Irish have been since.

Regular trophy-winners in regional football until the post-war period, Liffey Mersey began an ascent through the English football pyramid in the 1960s and 1970s, eventually earning election to the professional leagues in 1982. For the last 30 years, they have found themselves in and around the top divisions, playing top-tier football for roughly half the seasons since 1992.

Newly renamed Liverpool Front - as the Merseyside city’s KIT LEAGUE representatives and celebrating redevelopment around its famous Pier Head area - the club’s fans are diverse but certainly boast many from the Irish diaspora, with the Dubliners’ I Wish I Was Back In Liverpool a longstanding crowd anthem.
