Auckland Ferriers
Tāmaki Makaurau Ferriers SC, now known as the Auckland Ferriers in the KIT LEAGUE, is a team based in New Zealand’s largest city. The club was established in 2004 when a group of ferry workers from rival companies, came together with the goal of creating a recreational football club. (Tāmaki Makaurau is the Māori name for the Auckland region.)
In their early years, the Ferriers struggled to gain traction in the competitive New Zealand football scene. However, the team's commitment eventually paid off and they even began to attract a dedicated fanbase.
As the team enter the higher level of competition earned, the name change to the “Auckland Ferriers” is a difficult pill for many to swallow, but the rationale is that taking the next commercial step - including the switch to a more recoginisable identity - will offset any compromising of the ideology.
Over the years, the Ferriers - or the Ferrymen - have become a beloved fixture of the New Zealand footbal scene, establishing themselves as a symbol of unity and teamwork in a country that is known for its diverse population. Today, as they represent their city with pride, the Ferriers continue to inspire.
