Athens Mets ------------- [Under Construction]
Founded in 1925, Αθήνα Μετς FC, commonly known as - and now officially named in the KIT LEAGUE contest - Athens Mets FC, have long stood as a testament to the enduring legacy of a unique historical connection between Greece and Bavaria. Their striking kit is not just a reflection of their distinctive identity but also a nod to their Bavarian roots.
The Mets earned the nickname Οι Βαυαροί (The Bavarians) as a tribute to the Catholic Bavarian settlers who, around 200 years ago, made their way to Athens. These early Bavarian immigrants put down roots in the area of Paleo Iraklio, an Athenian suburb, and over time, they became an integral part of Greek society. The descendants of these Bavarians still proudly call Athens their home.
Similarly, the motto, “Ya mas, Mets” (Cheers, Mets), embodies the camaraderie that has persisted through generations, and the historic Παναθηναϊκό Στάδιο II (Panathenaic Stadium II) serves as the backdrop to their matches - a place that has witnessed their triumphs and celebrations over the years.
As the Mets carry the pride of both Greece and Bavaria into the KIT LEAGUE - but with a model that welcomes the full spectrum of diversity - their Paleo Iraklio (“Little Bavaria”) base should play host to exciting football and fervent tribal support.
