About
Founded in 1920 as a celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Mayflower’s arrival in Massachusetts (November 1620), the then Rotherhithe America - now “London Hithe” as the English capital’s first representative in the KIT LEAGUE - have developed over the last 100 years plus into a progressive and inclusive organization which is proud of representing the diverse cultures of modern London.
The Mayflower had set off from Rotherhithe to Southampton in July 1620, before its tumultuous journey to what would become (the United States of) America, hence the inspiration for the club. But while eyes were looking across the pond in 1920, the cosmopolitan English capital has increasingly been the focus since, and the current crest features a stylized version of the very local, iconic St Mary’s Virgin Church - the yard of which is also where the Mayflower’s captain, Christopher Jones, is believed to be buried.
On the pitch, Rotherhithe America have at times struggled to maintain top-level football, competing for support with all the big names that London boasts, but recently have seen greater success and have high hopes for the future.
As London Hithe marches into its next century, its commitment to inclusivity and diversity remains unwavering. The club stands as a reflection of modern London's vibrant tapestry, where cultures from around the world seamlessly converge, mirroring the cosmopolitan spirit that defines this global city. Looking ahead, the echoes of the Mayflower's historic voyage serve as a reminder of the club's enduring journey, embodying the resilience and unity that continue to shape its story on and off the pitch.
