New York Coney ------------- [Under Construction]
Formed in 1951, New York Coney have their origins in a group of Brooklynite men with a mixture of Irish and French backgrounds putting together a post-war football team. Carrying a rabbit on their chests as a nod to the argued Dutch origins of the “Coney” name - “konijn” being Dutch for “rabbit” - the recreational beginnings didn’t stop the side drawing crowds of fans to their matches as their popularity grew and grew.
Initially facing rival teams from other Brooklyn districts and, later, New York City as a whole, practice sessions on the beach have evolved from thrifty necessity to an occasionally revisited tradition for the purposes of photocalls, with the exploits on the pitch seeing success nationally and in continental competition.
Never more of a symbol of the resourceful - scrappy - spirit of Coney Island than today, and also doing Brooklyn and New York City and State proud, the CeeCees represent hope for local soccer fans and aspiring footballers as they take their place in the KIT LEAGUE.
